Setting up the Equipment
Refer to Equipment list and setup
- Connect Line out splitter (A) to church sounds system "Line out"
- Connect 3.5mm to 1/4" cable (C) from (A) to SPDI Direct Box (B)
- Connect XLR Cable (E) to (B) and run to clerk's desk
Use Gaffer tape to anchor to floor. Take extra care to tape well where the cable crosses the stairs.
- Connect iRig Pro (D) to (E) at clerk's desk
- Plug iRig Pro into Computer/iPad
- Plug 3.5mm to RCA cable (G) into computer
- Connect (G) to Assistive Listening System hub (F)
Use the red plug on the RCA cable
Running the software
- Create the room 10-15 minutes or so before meeting starts
A room will be deleted after an hour of inactivity.
- Configure settings
- Audio tab
- Microphone (Input) should be the iRig Pro
- Capture tab
- Silence duration is 200ms
- Idle reminder is 2 minutes
- TTS tab
- Enable Text-to-Speech
- TTS Mode = Cloud (Google)
- The mail voice seems to give the best result
- Audio tab
- Load the canned text YAML file
This has pre-translated text that can be inserted directly into the feed.
- Use QR code to set up a mobile device to translate to Haitian Creole
The person reading the Creole over the second assistive listening system will read from this translation.
- Use Auto mode
Auto mode will automatically detect when a thought is ready for translation. It will gather a transcript of what is being said and display it in orange until it is ready to translate.
If you see it get stuck for any reason you can click the Translate button to flush the text and have it translated immediately.
- Press Stop when nobody is speaking
You don't want to send long audio segments where nothing is being said so press Stop during songs or extended periods of silence. Remember to press Start again before someone begins speaking.
In addition, in Auto mode it costs money whenever recording is active.
- If someone is going to speak in the Target language press "Pass"
Pass turns on pass-through mode and the text will not be translated.
